April 1988
TCP was inaugurated as the Tsukuba Circle of Phonologists which consisted of only four members: Shosuke Haraguchi, a professor at the University of Tsukuba, Masao Okazaki and Takeru Honma, both first-year doctoral students, as well as Shin-ichi Tanaka, a first-year student of the Masters course.

April 2000
Prof. Haraguchi retired from the University of Tsukuba in March 2000 and moved to Meikai University, although TCP was still held at the University of Tsukuba.

June 2001
The headquarters of the society moved from the University of Tsukuba to Sophia University. With this as a start, TCP has taken on the aspect as the common meeting ground for phonologists in the Kanto region.

April 2004
The headquarters of the society has once again moved, this time to the University of Tokyo. The society itself was integrated into the COE program of the university. TCP has been officially renamed as the Tokyo Circle of Phonologists ever since.
